The quality of the air impacts the way many people live their lives. Poor outdoor air quality can negatively impact health and decrease visibility in the community. The Town of Superior is committed to improving air quality by collaborating with local and regional partners and educating the community on simple steps that can make a positive impact.

Marshall Fire Air Quality Information

Courtesy of Boulder County Public Health, people living, working or traveling in and around the Marshall fire burn areas can opt-in for text and email alerts to access instant, real-time, air quality information 24/7 from 25 particulate monitors strategically positioned throughout areas affected by the Marshall fire and in the surrounding communities, including a dedicated monitor for all schools in burn areas. Residents can access the dashboard at anytime.

Superior Air Quality Monitoring

The Town has three PurpleAir technology air quality sensors installed throughout the community that provide real-time air quality monitoring. These monitors make it possible for residents and visitors to view the potential risk from air pollution in order to make better decisions about spending time in the outdoors. The monitors have been installed at three locations around Superior including Town Hall, North Pool and South Pool.

By visiting https://map.purpleair.com, anyone can see the air quality reported in those locations as well as several other locations throughout the Denver metro area. The air quality monitors we have measure PM 2.5 which are fine particles primarily come from car, truck, bus and off-road vehicle (e.g., construction equipment, snowmobile, locomotive) exhausts, other operations that involve the burning of fuels such as wood, heating oil or coal and natural sources such as forest and grass fires.

Regional Air Quality Council (RAQC) Ozone Action Alerts

Vouchers for Electric Lawn and Garden Equipment

New in 2022, the Town is partnering with the Regional Air Quality Council (RAQC) for its Mow Down Pollution Program. The Mow Down Pollution Program aims to reduce ground-level ozone pollution and improve air quality by electrifying lawn and garden equipment. The Town of Superior is providing vouchers to people who choose to recycle and replace their gas-powered lawn mowers ($150 voucher) and leaf blowers ($50 voucher) with rechargeable or corded electric equipment.

Vouchers are available on a first-come, first serve basis. Residents can sign up for a voucher here. To receive a voucher, you must provide proof of recycling of equipment.
