Energy Efficiency
The Town of Superior has adopted regulations for energy efficiency for residential construction following standards determined by RESNET. Specific HERS score requirements are defined in the Superior Municipal Code.
Reinforced Windows and Sashes
The Town of Superior defines reinforced windows and sashes as those having a frame made of materials designed to have greater strength than a standard frame and sash.
This condition can be satisfied by being of a design incorporating additional strengthening features, by incorporating additional components in the frame and sash, or by providing a listing from the manufacturer as “reinforced.”
The reinforced window designation shall be approved by the Building Official prior to acceptance for construction.
ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units)
ADUs are permitted as accessory structures to single-family and two-family dwelling units in the R-L, Low Density Residential District, and the R-M, Medium Density Residential District. See links below for details.

Fence Information
- Fence Requirements per Superior Municipal Code
- Sagamore Fence Regulations: Residents of Sagamore may elect to either install or not install a fence on their respective properties. For those who elect to install a fence, the fence must be non-combustible material. The previously prescribed fence typologies have been eliminated. Fence types will largely be at the property owner's discretion; however, both municipal and building code requirements for fencing shall apply.
Reminders
- Effective March 28, 2022, the Town adopted an Ordinance to provide rebates for plan check and permit fees and waive Town use taxes for homeowners rebuilding their homes due to the Marshall Fire.
- Furnace combustion air must be provided in a mechanical room.
- Garage ceilings with living space above shall have 5/8 x drywall
- The minimum horizontal projection and width of a window well shall be 36”
- C-exposure if in wide open area
- 40 lbs per sq. ft. live deck load
- Wind speed 154 mph vult
- Frost Depth is 3 feet; caissons must be 36" deep
- Insulation R-25 for walls, R-60 for ceilings with attic above
- Concrete 2500-3000 PSI depending on the application
- Windows - Maximum U-Factor is 0.30
