Town of Superior, Colorado
Home MenuARTery
In 2020 and 2021, the Cultural Arts & Public Spaces (CAPS) advisory committee implemented a pilot art path around the Superior Community Center called the Superior ARTery. CAPS worked with the community on this pilot program to get important feedback and input about how to develop a longer, more robust, permanent path through Town. CAPS is currently working on ARTery Phase 2, a path that will eventually stretch from Original Town, through Downtown Superior and Rock Creek, to the vicinity of Eldorado K-8. The ARTery path will be a combination of walking and cycling routes that are activated with sculptural public art installations, murals, and other creative offerings. The ARTery will also serve to connect Superior’s neighborhoods, schools, parks and businesses.
Phase 1
The ARTery Phase 1 Pilot was implemented in 2020 and 2021 after much planning and community engagement. The pilot project was an effort by the Cultural Art & Public Spaces (CAPS) Advisory Committee to start a new art path in Town to mimic similar art trails in towns and cities across the country.
Art paths typically include sculptures, murals, and interactive art and are meant to encourage walking, biking, creative wayfinding and even provide public safety features. Seventeen public artworks created by seven artists were placed within the one-mile Rock Creek Circle loop around the new Superior Community Center.
Artists: Scottie Burgess, Jason Graves, Katy Casper, Sarah Palmeri, Reven Swanson, and Thomas “Detour” Evans
Phase 2
In 2023, CAPS hired a consultant to continue work towards the creation of the Superior ARTery that was put on hold for a few years due to the Marshall Fire in 2021. CAPS is currently working on the ARTery Phase 2 project, a 5-mile path that will eventually stretch from Original Town, through Downtown Superior and Rock Creek, to the vicinity of Eldorado PK-8.
The ARTery path will be a combination of walking and cycling routes that are activated with sculptural public art installations, murals, and other creative offerings. The ARTery will also serve to connect Superior’s neighborhoods, schools, parks and businesses.
