What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan serves as a guide for current and future land use decisions in the Town, protecting and enhancing existing development and highlighting opportunities for private and public investment. Typically, municipalities evaluate their comprehensive plans every three to five years or if conditions significantly change. As part of its 2012 goal-setting process, the Superior Town Board directed a targeted review of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan with focus on undeveloped property.
Project History
The first Town of Superior Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 1975. A new plan was developed and adopted in 1989 and was updated in 1996. In 2001, a consultant-lead team updated the comprehensive plan to address economic, demographic, and geographic land use changes that had occurred since 1990. The comprehensive plan was then reviewed and updated in 2006 specifically to identify components of the plan, west of McCaslin Boulevard, where amendments were warranted.
Project Overview
The 2012 Plan Update will include input an extensive public outreach component in addition to participation of the Planning Commission and Town Board. This Plan Update is targeted and will focus on confirming the Town’s vision and goals and determining future uses for undeveloped property. It is anticipated that the Plan Update will take approximately 6 months to complete with a goal for Planning Commission and Town Board approval by October.
